When it was still winter, I would drive over the Connecticut River and Baby G would say, “I wanna go swimmin’ and make baby soup”. I would coat right over it, not really fully processing what she was saying. All children in the early stages of talking, their words are often confused with other words. Like when someone sings for years the wrong words to a song on the radio. I myself am guilty. Until very recently I thought “Secret Agent Man” was “Secret Asian Man”. I discovered the truth in a rather embarrassing moment.

Fin did the same, but his word mistakes often seemed more like a processing error, than understanding of the actual word.

Blueberries were blue-babies

Rabbit = Rabbip

Lemon = Money

Octopus = Potato = Octopus (that one worked in both directions)

Shoe Magic = Super Market

It at times took us quite a while to figure out what the hell he was saying. His sound pronunciation was clear as a bell. He had words at 9 months, they disappeared by the time he was 11 months. We were told to expect that they may never return. When they did, it was at the rate of over 100 per week, and there was no baby talk.

Baby G’s language is much more guess work, she says the word, but I sometimes can not interpret it even after the twentieth time I have asked her to repeat it. And just like an old person she tries to over enunciate, and talks to me quite loudly as if I were deaf.

Yesterday when I suggested they get on some suits, and go out and play in the yard with the hose, she started yelling, and screaming

“Baby SOUP! Baby Soup!”

What? Then, finally 6 months later I get it.

Baby Soup = Bathing Suit

    Haha! Isn’t that great?!? My biggest stumper with my son was “Eat-da-foos”. And it too, was about six months, until I figured it out. April Fool’s. Who knew?!? :)
