We are constantly asked if Fin talks.

Does he talk? He doesn’t STOP talking at home. But I understand the question, for a very long time he mostly only talked to us at home, and the grandparents. His new school has opened up a world of words that are heard by a much greater audience. Everything lately seems like a struggle, we have no space that belongs to us, we are never alone, I miss my house, I miss my dog, I miss my cat, I miss my TV.

But I don’t miss Fin’s daily struggle. He is happy, happier than I have ever seen him in my life. We have all made accommodations for his well being, and we are all benefiting too. Less anxiety, fewer tantrums, he comes home from school everyday happy. He says he LOVES school.

He talks in school.

He plays with friends in school.

We go to the park everyday, he sees students from his class there and he plays with them. Without question, as hard as some days are for us, it is all so very worth it. He will always struggle through everyday, but for now it is a little easier for him than it has ever been before.

He has asked us for something, a t-shirt. He wants printed on it:

“NO HUGS”

“NO KISSES”

“NO TOUCHING”

If he were bigger, and more room to fit additional comments, he would like to add, “NO BUGS ALLOWED”.

He is using his voice now in all kinds of ways, and it is not at all hard for everyone to hear.

Can you make one of those t-shirts for my daughter??
And for the record, we are happy to hear that Fin is flourishing!

Although I’m one of the privleged ones who have always heard Fin speak, I can’t tell you how happy I am to know that others can now share his wonderful charm.

I used to be a SLP and I love hearing/reading about kids’ progress re: social communication and their successes in the school system. Even more, I love seeing kids who are finding happiness - no matter their diagnosis or condition or whatever. My oldest has a t-shirt that she has since passed down to her little sister that said, “You talk too much.”
