Fin is a TERRIBLE sleeper. Minor changes occurring, pending, anxiety, season changes, and even a new moon can unsettle his cycle. Our old (recently “old”) night time ritual required someone to sit in the children’s room for a short time. Not necessarily until he fell asleep, but just until he wound down. In the most recent weeks we have just tucked, and run, well really sauntered out. We were unsure it would go well, but it did. Until….
Later. Every night since Fin has snuck into our our bed, and slipped in next to me. I do not usually wake when he gets in, but later when trying to turn I find a lump preventing me from doing so. We would ask why he would not stay in his bed, and the best response we got was a shrug, if there was any response at all. We suspected why, but wanted him to come to the realization on his own. On top of a slew of sleep interrupted nights, the Girl was waking, and I have been battling a cold/flu intruder. Al I want is sleep, 8 uninterrupted hours.
We thought we would be so tricky and switch sides. Thus when Fin tried to get in our bed, Hubby would wake, and take Fin back to his own bed. That night I woke in the pre-dawn hours to see Fin’s shape in the dark softly snoring beside me, on the opposite side where he normally finds me.
The next morning we asked Fin, “How did you know?”
He responds, “Because Mama scootches over and let’s me in, Doodah doesn’t”
I DO? Logic outdoes wit every time.
