I spent the day with Fin, a mental health day for both of us. He spent most of it autonomous, and aggravated with me pushing out the door for errands, and playing music too loud. For the next few day it is just the 3 of us, and I find myself a quiet observer. Lately I have been watching them, listening, trying to imprint in my memory the moments that come to pass.
With Fin the things from when he was little were the words that stuck in our minds:
Money was “lemon”
Supermarket was “shoe magic”
Octopus was “potato”
Rabit was “rabip” - this was a particular favorite of hubby’s. Fin’s play is still remarkably the same, just masked slightly better. His building skills are improving, and hubby is trying to get him to intermix different toy sets (blocks, train tracks) in his building efforts. Not much success yet.

Boo is just so different in every way. She is such a funny little person, her personality is so strong, and she is so adamant about everything. Always happy to go out, wakes up always with a smile, (a new experience from Fin’s ever serious, or terrified wakings). She is force, yet it partners with a jovial spirit that jumps into everything.

I will always remember how when I dress her she always says, “Hello thumbs!” when her hands pop out of the ends of her sleeve. For some unknown reason she is most often missing one shoe and sock, always the right one. When someone sneezes, coughs, burps, or farts, you inevitably hear a little pixie “Bless You!” from where ever she might be. Her free given hugs, and general love of all things in life, which is so much like her Dodah.
The 2 of them, my little munchkins could not be on such separate planes of this world. Yet as much as he ignores her claims of joy when she sees him get in the car at the end of the day, I know they already have an agreement. A tolerance, and bond that I love to just sit and watch as they share the couch still catatonic in the morning, or listen to their softly sleeping sounds in the darkness, and their morning conversation that I can make neither heads, or tails of. All that matters is they connect. We just hope, that as she out grows him, and we know she will, that her tolerance, admiration, and understanding remain of all his quirky personality traits.
