Weekend

May 29th, 2007 · 4 Comments

Ahhh, long weekends, and this one was good one. In it was a walk in the woods, sunshine, smiles, beer, and good coffee. We went to the farmers market in Amherst and being so early mostly there were plants for sale. In the melee of hippies we managed to find some amazing organic garlic that was just wonderful. Just down the road we got some amazing coffee from Rao’s, I highly recommend.

We also went for a walk in the woods across from our house. I forget how wonderful the woods can be, the light was beautiful. Despite the drunks sleeping off their inebriation in the Volvo parked on the walk in. No joke.

It has a watering hole that back in the 20’s they created all of this rock stairs, bridges, and shelves to sit and have picnics. I guess it was quite the social hot spot. Now through lack of money, and abuse from residence it has become eroded, and lightly littered. Here are some of the things we found there:

Dodah found a frog nestled in the silt of the brook, which we all thought was “Super Cool!”.

A great example of nature taking back over. There was a brook running out of this hole in the bank wall. Either the bottle got washed down, or someone stuck it there. Regardless, nature kept right on doing its thing.

This amazing tree is persevering despite the land erosion. What you can’t quite see is that it is clinging to a rock, and surviving despite its roots becoming uncovered. The land is really suffering, and things are finding a way to survive.

I love this one, nature reverting back. I am sure at some point this sign actually said some thing stupid, like ” NO DOGS ALLOWED”. Time has washed away the paint, and the tree I think, is trying to pretend it was never there at all.

All in all we all regretted the return to reality today. But we must soldier on. The weekend was full for us.
