Oh boy - is it ever. I am being a big giant slacker bunny. I am at my desk, with about 25 emails waiting for me and I just can’t face them. The weekend was an unusual treat. We took the kids to my parents and they spent the night. We have never before done that, and let me tell you, it was really nice. I feel so often that I hardly see them and want to spend as much time as possible outside of work with them. As a result, I rarely take a break, but this weekend we did, and it was great.
Initially hubby and I were going to go away, but we decided at the last second to just go home. It was a good choice. We went to bed early, slept so hard. I always have one ear, and eye open waiting, and listening for pitter patter feet, or restless sighs. I had uninterrupted newspaper time, heaven. I got about half way through a scrap quilt for Baby G. Hubby and I spent most of the day in our sunny dining room across from each other. I was quilting, he was on the computer doing his nerd thing. I put girl music in the player, and we both sang along. We just enjoyed being together, the quiet of the house, the stillness of the space.

When I walked in to my parents and saw the babies, I was so happy to see them, but did not fill one iota like it had not been worth it. My parents seemed a little tired, but weathered it well. Baby G is a bit of a handful, and Fin was his usual self. He was very anxious about going overnight with out us. When it came time to go back home he threw down, crying, refusing to participate in the process of getting everything together to go, cried and cried he did not want to leave. Casa Del Ama, where all whims and demands are met no matter how he asks, pancakes for breakfast every day, new toys, and sweet treats. If my life could be like that there, I would never want to leave either. We suspect the payback will be a total bitch, but it was worth it, and I bet we will be doing it again, hopefully not too far in the future.
We are entering into a new era in our lives, hubby quit his regular paycheck job. He is going to go out on his own as a contractor. I am so happy for him, and know that this is the right thing for him, and us. Life is too short to not be. This saga continues of our life changing decisions, stay tuned.

So glad you got “time off”—love the colors on the quilt. Charlie always gets the “little prince” treatment from my parents and has to re-accommodate to our more meagre ways.

Meg- first I love the new look of your blog- the header photo is gorgeous!
I’m glad you and hubby enjoyed some time to yourselves. I got out for an early dinner with some of my friends last night- Owen asked me when I would be leaving because he said he “needed a break from me.” Well! That always makes taking some time for yourself easier!
Good luck to hubby with the new job- it is always so cool to be your own boss.
